Some games are pixelated on macOS (Retina display issue?)

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip and Retina display, and I use a 4k monitor with it. I bought a few games with the sale today, and some appear extremely pixelated even if I set the resolution to 1440p or 4K.

The issue looks almost like a "screen door" effect, and I am wondering if this has to do with retina scaling on the Mac. The games in question are:
- Pillars of Eternity 2
- Darkest Dungeon
- Divinity Original Sin 2

I first noticed the issue when opening Pillars of Eternity 2. It failed to launch 3 times (a black window would open, with nothing happening). The 4th time it launched but everything looked pixelated. I have tried reinstalling the games, and reinstalling Steam, with no luck.

I tried setting the resolution on the 4k display to actual 4k (unusable for normal work, everything is too small), with no luck.

Does anyone know if there are any fixes? Or is this expected?
