Xbox Controller Works in Big Picture But Not in Game

So I've bought an Xbox X|S controller, after reading it's MacOS compatible. Updated my MacOS to Big Sur 11.6.4, and as you probably know - the controller works perfectly in Big Picture mode but not in game.

Tried updating the firmware on the controller - it didn't help.

I tried changing the preferences to disable steam overlay and to disable steam input - nothing works. The game (Cuphead) do recognize the controller and sometimes respond to some keys (eg. in the main menu) but doesn't respond to any button in the game itself.

Is there any solution to this? It is furiously frustrating.

I was just checking in on the Discussions to see if this has been resolved. This has been an issue with a December update. I was hoping it would be fix with patches but nothing yet.

i also see a bunch of ppl with similar issues, mine is with ATS/ETS2 but yes says its connected, they once u start gameplay it doesn't do anything

This is an issue with PS controllers too. Seems only a few games work
