Can't play 32 bit on mac, how to fix?

Hey guys! Trying to get my girlfriend into gaming, and shes loving what she can play so far! (working on getting her a PC here ina bit) ANYWAY! I bought her the portal 2, left 4 dead 2, and she can't run them because they are in 32bit.

Is there anyway around this?

The 32 bit incompatibility is from Apple and there is not much that can be done about it.

However...

Steam's filter for what is and isn't 32 bit is a pile of pooh!
Basically any game not explicitly flagged as 64 bit is considered 32 bit and Steam will say it won't run. You will find for about half the games this is in fact completely false and you can install and run them normally.

Unfortunately the only real way to know is to install and try running. My solution was to create two favourites groups called 32 Bit and 64 Bit and depending on the results of the test run manually move them into the appropriate group.

Left 4 dead 2 will open but crashes right away. Where as walking dead won't play at all. We haven't tried portal 2 but it has the same warning about the 32 bit.

You don't say if it's an Intel Mac or M1 Mac. Both games run great on Intel Mac in Crossover. On M1 Left 4 Dead 2 runs well but Portal 2 has grapical issues:
