Steam need to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again.
Anybody know how to fix this. I've got a new MacBook Pro (last years) and I'm running Big Sur 11.2.1
I don't have a firewall on. I have tried deleting the registry.vdf file. And I have a network connection.
I am trying to install steam for the first time on this MacBook and it isn't working.
Any ideas would be great.

Thanks

You can use VPN to speed up your network connection, or switch network lines.
It's OK to install an accelerator on the computer.
How about trying to connect to your phone's hot spot instead of using WiFi?
I have solved this problem with VPN.

Morning all,

I am also having problems with this issue.

This is a new imac which is running IOS BigSur 11.2.1 which was installed last week.

We also have steam on our other imac which works fine.

The connection is fine as the hub is only 6ft from the computer.

Any advice would be welcome.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.
I don't seem to have any issues with my internet connection and steam actually works my old MacBook Air.
Any other ideas?

I'm having the same issue. Like others have said, I'm having no problems with my actual internet connection. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, as well as popping into Accessibility to authorize Steam to make changes to my computer. Someone please help!!!

Okay, I just tried this and it worked for me too... can anyone explain why this fixed the issue? If this worked then I would assume it has to be an issue with my wireless connection itself... Is there a way I can fix this to avoid any issues going forward?

Update: Using a phone hotspot works for me, too

This also worked for me. I would be interested to know what is stopping it work on my broadband...but it is working. :)

Thanks for your help

I got round this by using a VPN. I can't see why that works nor why using a phone hotspot would.

VPN worked for me on 2 High Sierra Macs. Don't know why
