Steam Play / Proton on MacOS

Hello!

As a long time user of both Windows and Linux I have been really excited and happy about Steam Play / Proton to lift the barriers from gaming on GNU/Linux systems.

My disappointment was quite big when I bought a Mac recently and saw that Steam Play was not available on MacOS.

It works so amazing on Linux, and Wine in general works well on MacOS too - is there any specific reason it hasn't been ported to MacOS yet?

On Linux systems it's actually not that bad - Steam Play is available there and works with lots of titles (you can check ProtonDB [www.protondb.com] for compatibility).

Also, Lutris helps a lot there, which unfortunately is also not available on Mac but only on Linux.

There are some limitations, however. Just for example Destiny 2's anti cheat does not work on Linux, thus playing it on Linux will result in a ban. But those are rather rare exceptions.

Only bypassing the anti-cheat in destiny 2 will result in a ban.

I've been using Linux for a couple decades now. Gaming on Linux is crazy easy now. Two years ago I would have laughed in your face if you told me how easy it is today. I even bought a Steam Deck day one and told my bro, "hey, if this deck plays even just a few game half way decently, I will say it's a success." I mean, who really had any reasonable expectations. Today, I'm gobsmacked at how gaming on Linux has made a complete 180. I don't even check compatibility of games for Linux now. I just buy it, click install and click play. Any of the Mac folks here, Proton is working so well these days. If you all can throw your weight behind Proton that will help us all. The rising tide lifts all ships.

You can't, it's not compatible with most Apple Silicon devices. Props to the team for making so many pieces of actual incredible code, though.
