Installing steam "Needs to be online to update"

When I try to install steam, I get an error message that "steam needs to be online to update. Please confirm your network connection and try again." Has anyone had this error message when trying to install steam?

Same here. Error occurred when trying to update. So I deleted the App and re-installed it, and have got the same error message again.

I have Big Sur 11.2.2 on a 16 inch 2019 MacBook Pro and it doesn't work. I'm getting the same error.

I had the same issue. Cant fix even reinstall or reboot the mac. But when i change my internet from my wifi to my iPhone's hotspot it works. Sigh.

Just finishing update. Seem like all fine after switching to wifi after the update.

I had the same thing, switch to my phone's hotspot and I was golden.

So I tried switching to my phone's hotspot, and everything worked without a hitch. I was able to go back to my wifi to actually run steam. Thanks Blackfox, Duckamuck!
