Why does Zenimax get away with this crap?
Zenimax/Bethesda decided in November not to support new Macs but all their product placement here just carries the generic Mac icon with no disclaimer to warn of lack of support. Steam had warnings that certain Mac products wouldn't function on Catalina. Where is that practice now? There was an official positioning statement released in November 2020 by Zenimax, why wasn't that put on all their shiny new products here since that date? Shoddy business practices by both Zenimax/Bethesda (nothing new from what I am reading in other reviews) Looks bad on Steam too. Time to step up your game so to speak & be more upfront?

Literally all your games are going to stop working on macs in 2-3 years

That’s apples fault

Devs are not going to bother to recompile their games for M1s in addition to all the other nonsense Apple has made them do in the past 2-3 years, like deprecating 32 bit, requiring Metal, requiring signing. Devs didn’t want to do any of that even before M1.

Your steam library is dead on Macs. That’s apples fault. Your future is the iOS store so you better get used to it.

The whole anti-Apple backlash is maybe deserved because of their previous business practices but the whole situation reeks of whose epeen is bigger than the others. It also kind of resembles not selling a wedding cake to someone based on your "beliefs". It's not about money because they can probably tax right off the whole thing to profitability if they climbed off their high horse.

Wrong again! You keep spreading this disinformation in different threads. Many if not all 64-bit games, specially those using Metal, like many Feral games will work even after 2-3 years. Some developers deciding not to make Mac games is not the same as "All your games will stop working". All your existing games will work.

Of Course no game will work for eternity. Old games won't run on new HW/SW and new games won't run on old HW/SW. Many Windows games also require 64-bit and will not work on older hardware and OS. You can as I said before keep your Mac with the last version of Rosetta 2 and macOS for games you want to keep playing when Apple stops supporting Rosetta 2 so nothing will stop working, just as many people did during last transition from PowerPC to Intel.

Can you give some examples of games that are not working? Existing games should work in Rosetta 2. Here can you check if your games/apps work:

ESO doesn't work any longer, I already dealt with their tech help who referred me to the open letter from the Dev spokesperson posted in November 2020. That is how I found out they were not going to support M1 chip computers. If that information had've been clear on all available ESO purchases here (and also on their official shop) I wouldn't have subscribed to ESO Plus for a month or bought crowns to enable being able to play as a Warden. It isn't about the money, it's the shoddy business practices ACROSS THE BOARD, Steam included. I restarted playing ESO because Guild Wars 2 ALSO joined the epeen bandwagon to not support Mac players period as of February (you can play through Nvidia but that's another story).

Here is ESO working on Apple M1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLdaLGr_cUo&t=601s
ES 3: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h1tuZJeSzKY

GW2 runs but poorly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=erGZNjimTfg&t=809s

It has a warning on Steam and is from 2012 so not a big surprise to me, but you're right about the lack of the information. That's the greedy developers to blame

ESO played intermittently for me until the most recent patch. Now anytime I enter another location or fast travel I get booted. I was thinking about using an emulator to run the PC version but based on my experiences with ShoddyMax I am not so sure I will

I saw the letter about them not supporting M1 Macs (https://www.elderscrollsonline.com/en-us/news/post/59187). Here is another video of someone playing it on M1: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gkBmt2svyZw

You can download Crossover and try it for 14 days for free and see if you can run the Windows version. According to https://www.codeweavers.com/compatibility/crossover/the-elder-scrolls-online it will not run but it was tested last time in Crossover 17. The recent version is 20. Which version of Big Sur do you have? Some things like controller support are better in 11.3 so maybe future macOS will fix your problem too.

Perhaps a laptop has better results than my Mini? I still can't change zones or enter a building. I may still run an emulator & I am running the latest version of Big Sur that was updated yesterday. Thanks for the advice.

@TenderRevolution Yes. Exactly same experience with M1 Mini.

You cant just blame apple for wanting to be ahead of the curve and set the trends on their platform (they have every right to do it) and be an industry leader. The devs are the ones responsible because theyre the ones too lazy to want to make easy money.

I wonder how happy people will be when Apple shuts down Rosetta2, just like they shut down Rosetta1.

Game devs have every right to not give a ♥♥♥♥ about having to be compatible with Apple's "trend setting". There is nothing lazy about it.
