Xbox Series S controller on M1 macbook

I can link my xbox controller (model: 1914) to my M1 macbook air via bluetooth, and it I can use it in big picture mode also do the controller setting in steam.

But when the controller just does not work on game, everytime I open the game the controller just has no response.

I know it happens to other controllers
I just wanna figure out

1) is it the problem of controller? Does anyone play games with different xbox controller like xbox one controller on M1?

2) or the game does not support the controller on M1 chip model?

3) or steam's problem

Thanks for the reading, I just wanna know what updates i have to wait, or just change my controller to play games

I find that my PS 4 DualShock controller stops working when Steam/Apple or American Truck Simulator have updates. Nobody seems to have a definitive fix at any stage. Haven't been able to use my controller for a week since last update ( by one or more of the above). I am using 2018 MacBook pro. Have uninstalled/reinstalled Steam, and ATS game. no luck. Tried all suggestions for big picture mode/steam enabled/steam disabled etc. Why wouldn't there be an easier way to have reliability with DualShock/Xbox controllers?
