The hardest part was finding where the file for the App Store purchased copy was on my Mac, so I could copy it into the folder of the Steam version.
In case anyone else ever comes across this, My steps were:
1. Create a game with a known name
2. Enable the viewing of hidden files (Command-Shift-Period)
3. I used the "Find" (Command-F) function to find the location of this file. But in addition to searching for a file with "Name _ Matches", I had to add in a second criteria that isn't shown. Change the Criteria to "Other" and look for "System Files." I then added "System Files _ Are Included." This took me right to the file location.
4. I Copied the file to my desktop
4. Removed the App Store Version
5. Installed the Steam Version
6. Ran the Steam Version and created a new file with a different known name.
7. Using the steps in 3 above, I located where that file is and copied my original file into that folder.
8. Disabled the viewing of hidden items.
