Controller not Recognized in Steam - Mac Catalina

For some reason, my USB xbox 360 controller is recognized by my Mac when I search for it in system information, but it is nowhere to be found on Steam. I already did extensive research on this and I found that if you go into big picture mode when you launch steam, you can go into controller settings and you're supposed to see the xbox controller there to register. However, my controller never shows up there at all. It also doesn't show up when I try to configure it to specific games in my library. My current Mac is updated to Catalina, which already caused extensive problems by disabling all 32-bit games. I assumed it would be best not to update it to Big Sur yet as I see it has caused even more problems in the other forums. Any help would be appreciated; I just got Hollow Knight and I would prefer to play with a controller. My controller is plugged into my adapter I got for the Mac book Pro (since it has no usb port on the computer alone)

Have you installed the 360 controller driver?
