This 'controller driver update' shows me a small window, which is 'Plz click the 'allow' button to load system software from 'value corporation' and/or 'ambrosia software, Inc' in the security & privacy system settings', however, I tried 5 times, Apple never gave me this 'allow' option in 'Security & Privacy system settings' window, I tried to unlock this window before I open steam to update my controller driver, but nothing happened in that 'S & P' window. But that 'install steam input' shows installed successfully every time after I clicked 'OK' in that 'Plz click the... in S&P' window. Actually it never installed successfully because I never had a chance to allow my system to install this package. But both Big Sur and 'Steam Input' installation itself ignores this 'Key step'. I don't know the solution.
Same thing happened to me... I just can't relax and play with my controller... regretting updated to Big Sur...
It says,
"The reason this is happening is because Steam still uses the older kernel extension method for implementing custom drivers. This is less secure than Apple's newer solution, DriverKit. Apple has deprecated kernel extensions for a while now, and with Big Sur, they're removing it completely by disabling them....Steam needs to transition to DriverKit before then, or there will be no way to load the driver anymore."
So looks like bad news for short term if this response is correct. Steam just needs to update to deal with BigSur. Hopefully happens soon.
