PS4 controller does not work in game
I bought a dualshock 4 controller to game on my macbook air running macOS big sur. I am able to play games from the mac app store and apple arcade with it but not steam games. The controller works in steam's big picture mode but doesn't in game. I did turn on the PS4 configuration support but in game it does not. I even tried switching off the PS4 support and turning on the generic configuration and it worked once but it did not work after that when I try to use it with only generic enabled.

Please help me fix this!!

Also, when i go into big picture mode it asks to install gamepad driver which make require a system reboot, and it does completely install but when I open big picture mode again, it asks the same thing again. :(

Yeah, I've had this same issue for about a week since upgrading to Big Sur. I have and SN30 Pro + which works fine on Open Emu but gives me the same issues you described above.

The Big Sur /Gamepad issue has been discussed in other posts, and is not resolved yet. The PS4 Dualshock issue is something that I am working through with SCS. No resolution yet, their last suggestion overnight was to create a new profile, and try controller in that. I havent tried that yet.

hey so I'm terrified to try and update to big sur just yet, but even still, I can't get my ps4 controller to play ingame, It works in big picture mode, but never in any of my games. It's annoying! I've tried all the tricks with mange configuration in game stuff too.

I just updated to big sur last night and because my controller is new I haven't had the chance to use it in catalina. So I can't say if it's just a big sur issue or in catalina as well. All app store and apple arcade seems to be working fine with it though.

I had the exact same problem as you, but I'm using Xbox Wireless Controller 2020, which is perfectly detectable in Steam's controller settings, but in games (Overcooked! 2 and HollowKnight) both have no response to my joystick.

Here the same problem, PS4 controller does not work on all games tested. It works on "Big Picture" but not in game. A strange thing: each time I enter in big picture a pop up notice me a driver update that I do but nothing changes. It ask me to allow the installation but nothing can be allowed (maybe this is the problem) anyway the driver installation is completed successfully but it doesn't work.

Exact same problem with the gamepad driver update. Nothing can be allowed but it does install and when I enter big picture mode again, it asks the same thing.

Same problem. Gamepad driver won't update on M1 running Big Sur. PS4 controller works via Bluetooth in Steam Big Picture menus, but asks to install drivers, which fail, and controller does not work in games. It keeps asking to install drivers, wherein installation always fails.

After almost a week of hassle not releasing the consequences of downloading big Sur i have successfully downgraded to Catalina and everything is working as it should again with control pad and streaming. Considering this looks like there's no fix in sight, the best advice I can give is get a hard drive back up your stuff, get an empty 16gb flash disk and a good YouTube video on how to downgrade. Not what you want to hear but seems like the only short term fix atm.

Note that many games support the PS4 controller native, so it might help to disable the PS4 support in the preferences and give it a go in a game. I used to have many problems at some time with PS support on with Rocket Leage for example, advice from support was to disable it and everything worked again.

Still no reply from Steam? There seems to be a lot of us Mac Big Sur users who can't use DualShock controllers anymore.

Yes I tried using the controller with the long dark and it works well. But almost all of my other games don't work as it requires steam to open.
