Macbook shuts down when on Steam

Not sure if this is the right forum or if it should be Hardware and Operating Systems. For the last week my MB (Pro Late 2013) is shutting down a few minutes after I start playing Football Manager (either FM20 or FM21 Beta). It also shuts down sometimes when just the Steam client is open and no game running.

Whenever the Steam client is not open, it works perfectly fine. No shutdowns and no other issues. I have spoken to Apple, done several resets, deleted several cache and startup items, even created different user profiles and went back to the previous OS - to no avail, the issue still persists.

I should also say that overheating shouldn't be an issue, as the computer shut down a few times while being very cold too.

The last thing Apple advised is lower the FPS because this might just be performance issues with the machine as it's a bit older now. So I'm keen to try that now but have no idea how. Any help would be much appreciated.
