Fresh Steam install - client won't start (missing steamclean)
I had just attempted to install steam on a machine its never been on. It does not actually start though - all I see is the startup grey square, and it never goes beyond that.

The system console errors I see are:

8/17/17 12:50:13.736 PM steam_osx[34764]: open on /Users/iros/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/steamclean: No such file or directory 8/17/17 12:50:13.743 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.valvesoftware.steamclean) Unknown key for array: SteamContentPaths 8/17/17 12:50:13.757 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.valvesoftware.steamclean[34771]) Could not find and/or execute program specified by service: 2: No such file or directory: /Users/iros/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/steamclean 8/17/17 12:50:13.757 PM com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]: (com.valvesoftware.steamclean[34771]) Service setup event to handle failure and will not launch until it fires. 8/17/17 12:50:47.218 PM steam_osx[34764]: BUG in libdispatch client: kevent[EVFILT_READ] delete: "Bad file descriptor" - 0x9

Here are the issues I'm seeing:

1. First, 'steamapps' is named in all lowercase, and not SteamApps. I renamed it in hopes that it would help, but it did not.

2. Second, there actually isn't a steamclean in there. This is all I got in that folder:
/Users/iros/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps bigpants:steamapps iros$ ls -akh . .. libraryfolders.vdf

I've attempted a clean install. I've removed the Steam folder from my user Library Application Support... no dice.

Can any one advise?
Thanks!

Are you sure that you have removed/renamed your steam folder, I'm pretty sure this is the solution to everything but I might be wrong. Make sure you visit your home folder and then Application Suooprt in your Library exact path to visit is:

~/Library/Application Support/

I am 100% sure that I have removed that folder. I've done it 3 times now, with no luck :/

Each time I do the following:

I uninstall the app by dragging to the trash icon
I remove the folder in ~/Library/Application Support
I download a new installer
I drag it to Applications and open it.
It downloads a bunch of updates
I try to open it and get the same issue.

In case anyone needs help in the future, this is the culprit (copying from a Steam Support thread):

Case-sensitive partitions or hard drives are not supported on Steam.

To check whether you have a case-sensitive partition:
- Open the program Terminal
- Type in: diskutil info /
- Hit enter
- Scroll down until you see the line "File System Personality." This will show either:

"Case-sensitive Journaled HFS" (hard drive IS case-sensitive)
"Journaled HFS" (hard drive is NOT case-sensitive)

Looks like I won't be using Steam after all :/
