macOS Catalina and macOS Big Sur incompatibility list

UPDATE On July 6th, 2020, Steam updated their beta, which added support for macOS Big Sur. Please switch your clients to the Steam beta and update your client if you want compatibility. Most issues described below should now be fixed. Yes, I will continue updating this.
UPDATE 2 The macOS Big Sur Beta 3 release breaks all Steam games. Please stay on Beta 1 or 2.
UPDATE 3 A new Steam update (maybe for Beta clients?) has launched, which fixes the issues on Big Sur Beta 3.

This is a reminder that if you are using macOS, please use macOS High Sierra 10.13.3 or macOS Mojave 10.14.6 if possible. Otherwise, use macOS Catalina, preferrably 10.15.3. Steam does not work properly on macOS Big Sur. If you'd like to know why these options are chosen, you can see my reply here.

This is a universal thread for issues with Steam and it's games on macOS Catalina and macOS Big Sur.

Most likely best to also ask in the Civ VI discussion section - they're a pretty active community with loads of Mac users.

Cant launch or play anything on my Steam. I know it is a two way street- but this just sucks. Essentially none of my games I have paid for are playable now and my steam account is bricked unless I want to go through the day long process of getting everything downgraded. Why does this always have to freakin happen?

Ah, this is a problem with Steam and Big Sur Beta 3. You will need to use the steamapps workaround. I'll add it back soon.

WHat is this "workaround?"
I have Catalina and I'm afraid to upgrade to Big Sur because many of my games are from developers that Apple lists as "unknown" and Big Sur will not run apps from unknown sources. Stupid security updates.
P.S. you can find out which of your apps and games are 64-bit and/or from recognized devs by clicking the apple icon in the top-left corner of your screen, then clicking "System Report" on the menu, and then clicking on the "Applications" folder.
