Unable to get Steam Controller working with Rocket League
This *might* be a Rocket League issue, and it might now.

I've followed the directions for getting my steam controller set up here: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=6311-RDGM-2712

I've found 1 issue with these steps. When I get to step 4 and add my steam controller, Steam prompts me to install the device drivers again. Installing them again, restarting my PC, and repeating the steps results in me being asked again, indefinitely.

Note: I have confirmed that the drivers are showing as "Install succeeded", and my settings for apps installs is set to "Always" in Security and Privacy/General.

Next up, if I skip the notification to install Steam again, I can set up a Controller Config for my Steam Controller and Rocket League. I use the default/Recommended schema.

I boot up Rocket League, and the controller works as designed in the menus. I can navigate without issue.

I go into training and I cannot control my car, at all.I can still bring up the menu and navigate, but the moment I unpause and try and drive my car again, absolutely nothing.

Any ideas?

Tried this on another title and it didn't work at all after applying a controller configuration. My guess is this is driver related on the Steam side....

Hi, if you haven't already seen this help article from Rocket League support, give it a look over. In particular there is a setting shown at the end in-game in the Rocket League menu that may need to be enabled for you to use your Steam Controller:

Thanks for the link! I gave the steps a try, but unfortunately, it did not work.

My current hunch is that the Steam Controller drivers are just *not* installing. Every time I open up Big Picture mode with my steam controller plugged in, it asks me to install device drivers.

The operation *always* completes successfully, and I'll perform a full reboot of my laptop, only to be prompted again upon opening big picture mode.

That's a bit weird actually. Normally the Steam Input drivers would be required for you to use the SC with a game as on macOS they're responsible for sending gamepad, keyboard and mouse events based on the controller's input, but Rocket League is using Steam Input natively, which means it gets controller input directly from Steam.

I can help you troubleshoot the Steam Input driver installation separately, but for Rocket League, if you have that beta "Use Steam Input" setting enabled in-game and the controller is still not working, you may have a controller configuration applied for it in Steam that is causing the issue here. If you go into Big Picture Mode and to your controller configuration for Rocket League, try setting your config back to the default one and see if things start working.
Hi Mikela!

2 notes:

1) The steam controller works in game, but only while browsing menus. The moment I enter gameplay (driving my car around on the pitch), the *only* functionality I have is bringing up the pause menu, which I can navigate with my controller without issue. I just can't drive my car at all, or swivel my camera.

2) I can't find a place to reset the controller configuration to default? Is this just a profile listed somewhere? I'm using the Psyonix recommended controller configuration. I tried swapping configurations and I had no luck.

Was this ever solved? I am having the same exact issue on Mac, and I've tried all these steps. I can navigate menus, but as the OP said, once I'm in game the only button that works is pause. I keep seeing that there should be a drop-down under RL's controls menu, but that drop-down doesn't exist for me.
