dualshock 4 on the mac
So today I bought a DS4.

Connect to Bluetooth; easy.
Use with Steam Big Picture; works fine.
Configure through Steam; everything ok.
Use with Dirt ...nothing. Completely inert. Ditto Warhammer DoW2 and Binding of Isaac.

Do I need to get one of those Joystick config apps or am I missing something else?

I'm using a 2011 iMac with Capitan, btw.

You're not very specific with the game versions. But you don't need any extra apps. So far I have the DS4 working with Dirt III Complete Edition (I might have enabled the controller in the game settings) and The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth works out of the box. I had this all working fine with Captian but it also works problem less with Sierra. Some games won't accept the Bluethoot btw so sometimes you need to connect your USB cable. Also it might be worth to try Steam Beta I'm not sure how far it's implemented but some time ago Steam anounced better support for controllers.

Same version of Dirt you have, I think (iiiCE). From what I've read online since I started this thread, the DS4 bluetooth support is a bit ifffy, and I suspect the cable I've been using as a micro-USB might not be that (just looks like one). No lights when I try charging it, among other things. Going to buy a "real" micro-USB cable tomorrow and see if that helps.

Onestly I have only tried the USB calbe at the very begining of purchase. I do everything over Bluetooth wireless and works perfect so far. I just heard some games do not work over bluetooth but so far I haven't met them.

Are you trying to charge your controller using the USB on your Imac? This won't work it doesn't supply enough power. Maybe it's not wise to do it this way but I use a Iphone telephone charger which works perfect and I guess any USB phone charger does the same. When charging the controller the light should go to orange/amber when playing the light is blue and when off or no battery no light.

Whether plugged into my mac or the wall, the controller does not light up. Also the plug doesn't seem to sit quite right in the controller. It doesn't fall out, but it still seems a bit loose. (I got the cable with my Music Angel, fwiw).

So, got the new cable, plugged it in my mac. The DS4 lit up and Steam asked me if I wanted to install a driver. One install later and Dirt 3 works with the DS4. Isaac (the first of them afaik) responds to the DS4 but not in a way that is playable. Not a big deal.

Does not seem to charge in the wall though. No orange light etc. Could it be its already charged?

It should always charge for a little while, maybe the adapter your'e using is not heavy enough. Can you try a charger from a tablet or a smartphone and try this?
Clueless Newbie Dec 13, 2016 @ 10:26pm
I have only the one adaptor. If it isn't charging through my mac it'll eventually run empty and I'll have to go back to the store for a new adaptor.

Yeah or have a look for a PS4 charger if they are available then you're sure you got the right one.

Don't re install and mess up your Mac, all you have to do is update your Mac OSX to the latest version of Mac which is MAC OS Sierra! So simple, it fixed my game.

A PS4 charger sounds liek a good idea. Maybe I'll get one.

As for Sierra; I'd like to, but I won't until Wacom updates the Bamboo Pen driver. IMO the pen tablet is the best way to handle a GUI (top-down games too), and I don't want to risk updating and then having to use a mouse because the BP tablet no longer works.

Don't upgrade to Sierra yet to many issues at the moment like keyboard issue's where key's don't work. I'm on Sierra and it's a real pain many keys randomly won't work like a zero or backspace Many times closing and re-opening the client can fix the issues till you close again. If you can and you are in no hurry stick on where you are.

I'll charge my PS4 controller using a Iphone 5 charger which works fine. In the pst I charged it with some Samsunng charger on a cheap model but I can't remember which one. I believe it was one of the first ones that was water proof.

I'm on a + yr old imac. Most of the stuff that's new in Sierrra doesn't work on it (metal, etc). Yeah, I can wait. Thnx for the headsup on the bugs.

I've kept my DS4 plugged into the mac. It hasn't run out yet, so maybe that's enough. On a side note; have you played Dirt iii with the DS4? If so, how did you dial down the sensitivity? No prob playing with the keyboard, but I can't stay on the road with the DS4. Oh well.

I didn't change anything in Dirt3 to play it, the sensetivity is also fine Ibut I'm very carefully moving the sticks not moving them abrubt from left to right or something.
