Best screen recording app for mac?
What do you use for screen recording in games on a mac computer? Previously I used PC with Nvidia graphics card and it had inbuilt screen capture software. So I really dont know where to look for a good app with minimal impact on performance.

Shift-Command-5 with the Mojave update. Or go to Quicktime->File->Screen Recording->"Record"

I have tried this, but I have some issues with recording to a file. When it becomes >1.5Gb or so, game starts to freeze, being smooth before that. Have you experienced something like that?

Quicktime is not really the best option. In my experience, it usually takes a heavy toll on the game's performance (and I think, it still does not record sound?).

Unfortunately, there is no screen recording software for Mac that directly captures from the GPU like Nvidia's Shadowplay does, so you can always expect at least some impact on the performance.

That said, the best alternative option is probably OBS, especially as it's free. Other two popular, but commercial ones are Screenflick and ScreenFlow. The former is relatively moderately priced, and apparently the most performance-friendly one, while the latter has a lot of features (including built-in editing tools), but is quite expensive ($129).

Thank you very much, Janichsan! At least this is something to start with.

Yeah, that's true: OBS requires you to jump through a few extra hoops to get sound recording. In their setup guide[obsproject.com], they recommend the (free) iShowU Audio Capture plugin.

Since we are already mentioning it, iShowU itself would be another (commercial) alternative.
