Cannot connect to Steam servers after update
Before updating the app last night, I could view all of my community and acitivity stuff on my Macbook Pro just fine, and did the update. Now, after the update, I try to go into those same pages and all I get is "error" messages and cannot connect to the server. Same thing again this morning. Logging into my main gaming machine (on Windows), no problem. The only thing I can think of is the internet connection on my Mac currently being awful. Is anyone else dealing with this?

No problems with my Mac Pro (late 2012 running 10.12.6) after the update.

Okay, I found the fix. As I assumed, it's an issue with https certificates.

Step 1: Go to https://www.digicert.com/digicert-root-certificates.htm using Safari.

Step 2: Download "DigiCert SHA2 Extended Validation Server CA"

Step 3: Open Keychain Access in /Applications/Utilities/

Step 4: Drag the certificate you downloaded onto the "login" keychain in the list on the left of the window.

Step 5: Double click on the new certificate in Keychain Access, expand the "Trust" section, and select "Always Trust" in the "When using this certificate:" drop down.

Step 6: Restart Steam if it's open.

Hey man, I have the same problem and did as the steps you post, but still cannot login, any idea?

The first solution (digi cert) didn't help.

Sorry, that video can't help me, since Steam seems to fail to load at all on Safari for me (this has been a problem with a few other sites as well, but most sites still load fine). I load it on my Mac (10.9.5) and all that shows up is a white page with blue hyper link text. Any ideas how to get Safari to load Steam at all? Thank you.

same problem.
With the video, it changes the url during the loading, from red to green (so it accepts the certificat now)
But still problem of communication with steam servers

Hi, this worked perfectly, but I made slightly different:

- Reverted back the certs settings to "use default system settings" (including the store.steampowered.com)

- Downloaded three certs from DiGi site: DigiCertHighAssuranceEVRootCA, DigiCertSHA2ExtendedValidationServerCA and DigiCertECCExtendedValidationServerCA

- Installed them in login keychain

- No problems with Steam content servers
