Steam support for Mac OS 10.10 Yosemite question - why is it still working?
Hi. I run Yosemite 10.10.4 and was expecting the Steam client to stop opening & playing games as of a few days ago. However, so far it is still running. My Steam client is fully up to date and I have logged out of Steam before logging back in several times. Should I expect this to abruptly stop working, or is there a reason why my Steam client still opens and runs my games without complaint despite Steam saying it shouldn't be able to do this? My Steam client even displayed a little countdown timer warning me of its impending end, but now it just displays as "Steam will stop running on Mac OS 10.10 in 0 days". What is going on? Will it continue to work forever? Any advice greatly appreciated while I work out what to do (don't want to upgrade my OS if I don't have to since I use a very old mac which probably won't handle it).

TL;DR - Steam client still works on my Mac OS 10, why? And will it stop at some random point or just keep working forever, despite the announcement that it no longer would?

There hasn't been any update for Steam (at least not as far as I know) between December 31 and today. I would expect Steam to stop working on your machine at the latest when the next update hits.

If I were you, I would set Steam to be offline now.
Thanks. How do I set it to be offline? I didn't know it was possible!

Has any update come out yet?

I have mine offline since dec 31st, but it turns out I missed a few games that I need to dowload. Is it safe to go online still ,and how will I know when it is not?

Well, if you didn't know, it turns out that clients will check more-or-less "at random", and some have gotten updates. Mine forced an update even while in "offline".
