You need to do an uninstall and reinstall as described here https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3329-WUJN-5636.
You do NOT need to delete the steamapps folder (meaning you don't have to re-download all your games). You do need to delete the other contents of ~/Library/Application Support/Steam though.
I actually took the further step of deleting the Steam preference file at ~/library/preferences called com.valvesoftware.steam.helper.plist before reinstallation just to be sure, but you may want to try the method they describe to see if it works before trying this extra step.
Hope it works for you.
I've tried the methods here in deleting all steam folders and files, however they do not exist. Even when I re-download and install, my computer does not create any new files or folders upon searching for them. All it creates is yet another Steam App that is from Dec 2017.
Any other ideas? Thank you so much
