Steam App not working for Mac OS X 10.9.5

Okay so after Steam updated during the summer to do with the friends chat or something my Steam app is broken as hell. The store won't work, every time I try and type in the search bar it just reloads the store, I click on a game on the store page it loads me in but then refreshes every second. My friends list won't load, I click on it several times and it pops up for about 2 seconds and has the loading bar but disappears then I try click on it again and it comes up as a black box. Trying to load community doesn't work either I just get a black screen and a red padlock in the top left corner with the link highlighted in red. I can't click on Activity it comes up with verifying login information and then says error problem communicating with the steam servers try again later. Is there any fix to these problems? I'm typing this using a web browser since I can't use the Steam app.

Your old Mac OS X version is no longer supported. The official requirements state that at least Mac OS X 10.11 is required.

Really? Is it possible to upgrade to OS X Yosemite instead of the latest OS X?

You will have to check with the Apple Store.

You can download old version of osx dmg from other website and upgrade manually.
