Steam instantly goes unresponsive on High Sierra
Whenever I try to open Steam, it bounces on the dock for a few seconds then immediately goes unresponsive, before closing itself shortly after. I've tried deleting and reinstalling, renaming it to steam.old in the applications support folder and opening it in the app folder but nothing works. Does anyone know of a way to fix it?

Right, and now you need to update to 10.14 if it's requiring it.

That's weird. You shouldn't HAVE to update to 10.14. I have been using High Sierra (10.13) for ages with Steam with no issues whatsoever. I would try uninstalling, then reinstalling the game and see from there.

Mojave (10.14) is causing it's own problems for people, so I would hold off on updating until it's more stable, to be honest.

I am having a similar problem. I tried to play Medieval 2 total war on my MacBook Pro late 2011. It says I need to update to 10.14, even though I can't because it isn't supported on my Mac. I tried the linux mod and it worked for a day but this morning I click the play button on Medieval and it just quits out of the game. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it but to no avail.

What version are you running? If it's a much older OS, it could just be that it's no longer supported by the app. Maybe updating to the next one up would solve all your issues.

As I don't know which version you're already using, just posting this link here anyway: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT206886

It might be the same problem for others who are being told to upgrade to the latest version and don't want to. :)

I have version 10.13.5 High Sierra. I tried to run it as the linux beta and it still doesn't work.

"Pre 10.14 Users: Players using a version of OS X before 10.14 can access a compatible version of the game via the Beta tab in the game’s properties window. Select the ‘mac_linux_gl-1.0.3' branch for a version that is compatible with 10.10.5 up to 10.13.6. "

I guess you've seen this on the game's page and that's the Linux mod you mentioned? It might be worth getting the latest High Sierra upgrade 10.13.6 to see if it makes any difference to your predicament. If they've engineered that mod to work on 10.13 and previous OS's, it is possibe that they got it to work on the latest update to each mac OS for legacy users and that's where they drew the line.

I don't own this game, so can't check it out on mine for you, but worth a shot, right?

If that fails, I'd contact the developers of the game directly. Best of luck.

I have a similar problem. I have a 2014 Mojave 10.14, and whenever I try to open steam it bobs up and down maybe once or twice and doesn't open at all. I have tried re-installing it multiple times, restarting my computer, etc. But nothing has worked thus far...

Where is this 'beta tab' and games properties window?
