Latest client update (not beta) broken again on Mac OS X 10.9
Community pages will not load at all, and Steam Helper causes infinite loop with Crash Reporter making ReportCrash process max out my CPU. I have to quit Steam, Crash Reporter, and Steam Helper via Activity Monitor to stop the constant log updating and CPU max load, so I am not 100% sure what part of the log is needed. It grows so fast that it is auto-deleting the excessively long log file every few seconds! Here is a portion of the system.log:
Oct 17 09:38:08 Sol.local Steam Helper[3844]: [1017/093808.203414:WARNING:crash_reporting.cc(255)] Failed to set crash key: UserID with value: 0 Oct 17 09:38:08 Sol.local Steam Helper[3844]: [1017/093808.203974:WARNING:crash_reporting.cc(255)] Failed to set crash key: BuildID with value: 1539366600 Oct 17 09:38:08 Sol.local Steam Helper[3844]: [1017/093808.204272:WARNING:crash_reporting.cc(255)] Failed to set crash key: SteamUniverse with value: Public Oct 17 09:38:08 Sol.local Steam Helper[3844]: [1017/093808.204535:WARNING:crash_reporting.cc(255)] Failed to set crash key: Vendor with value: Valve Oct 17 09:38:08 Sol.local ReportCrash[3833]: Saved crash report for Steam Helper[3843] version 31.0.1650.57 (1650.57) to /Users/*****/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Steam Helper_2018-10-17-093808_Sol.crash Oct 17 09:38:08 Sol.local ReportCrash[3833]: Removing excessive log: file:///Users/*****/Library/Logs/DiagnosticReports/Steam%20Helper_2018-10-17-093631_Sol.crash Oct 17 09:38:10 Sol.local Steam Helper[3844]: +[NSFont systemFontOfSize:weight:]: unrecognized selector sent to class 0x7fff75399f70 Oct 17 09:38:10 Sol.local Steam Helper[3844]: *** Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInvalidArgumentException', reason: '+[NSFont systemFontOfSize:weight:]: unrecognized selector sent to class 0x7fff75399f70'
Ever since the new chat features I have had so much trouble with Steam, with every update, that I am regretting sinking so much money into games which will all be useless if the client is not stable. This is unacceptable. You need to let users opt out of client updates or roll back when they break things.

Install Clover EFI.
- It’s hosted on Source Forge.

Upgrade to Sierra, High Sierra or Mojave.

Enjoy 😊 Steam once again.

Thanks, I appreciate the suggestion and have seen it before, but that is not a solution that works for me for various reasons. The games I purchased are and were supported on my OS, it is the Steam client that is the problem.

Steam no longer supports your Mac OS X version. It requires at least 10.11

Temporary solution: kill steam helper process in activity monitor, may need to do it several times to make sure they won't launch again.

Thanks shadyi, I did try that but it relaunches in an endless loop with crash reporter.

If my OS is not supported by a given update, the update should not automatically overwrite my existing files, certainly not without a warning and opportunity to decline, even if doing so may render some of my dependent software unusable. I have been a software developer since 1983 and I understand the issues here.
same here - steam client is buggy as f*** and update after update there are new problems...

festive winter aaaaa. A copy of the files would be great please. The new steam client is unusable for me on Mavericks.

The solution for this is to replace your Steam.AppBundle files with the files from the older versions, and then prevent Steam from autoupdating using a steam.cfg file in the launcher app. If anyone needs the files from the previous steam version, let me know.

Your solution is telling me to do something that is way out of my league.
I can hold off on updating my Mac.
My question is: Will this problem be corrected in the future so I can update my steam files, via a download or is it I'm in trouble here.

Thank you.

I appreciate you response, but understand:
I am older, and I'm just happy I can turn my computer on and click on a program to run.
I know how to do some things, but I'm afraid I would screw thing up by doing your recommendation.
I'm patient and I am willing to wait.
I'm just curios if this will be fixed in the near future.

Thank you
