Not getting custom icon shortcuts on desktop, only generic Steam icons.
At the moment, I don’t seem to get the customs shortcuts installed to my iMac desktop when I install new games from my steam account. I just get the generic round blue steam symbol with the name of the game underneath.

This happened awhile back on some games that I installed, and then the problem went away for a time, and I started getting the custom shortcuts with the nice artwork when installing a new game from steam. Now, the last four games I installed, I am back to the generic Steam logo. I tried deleting the generic shortcuts, and clicking “install shortcut” again, but that only worked one time, and failed the other six or seven times I tried it.

I mentioned this in the discussions forum of one of the games I installed, and the dev replied that the shortcut with the custom artwork was provided in the game, and that he could see it on his apple computer, but that his girlfriend got only the generic steam shortcut on her apple computer, and he had no idea why.

So, is anyone else having this same problem, & does anyone know how to fix the issue and get the right desktop shortcuts? Also, I wondered if there was a way to go back and get the custom shortcuts on the desktop for games I have already installed.

This is not a big problem, of course, since the games do play just fine, but I like to start them from a shortcut, and would prefer not to have a desktop full of generic Steam symbols.:steamsad:

What I do is, once the generic steam shortcut is created and placed on desktop, control click it and select "Get info" a window will open with info drag your custom icon and place it over steam symbol in the top left area and close...change will take effect imediately:borderlands2:

Thanx, but where do I find or get the original custom icon to drag over to the new window I opened?

Thanx for the info. I was more looking for a way, though, to get the icon that was specifically designed by the Devs for the game I had installed. For example, I got the generic Steam icon when I intalled Space Tyrant. I'll bet the game came with a great looking icon, and I would love to have that on my desktop. Is there a way to find the icon in the game file, and drag that onto the "Get info" window so as to use the original artwork?

Yes...Located in (Users) Library> Application Support > Steam > Steamapps > common >Control-click "Space Tyrant"app & Show Package Contents! & duplicate game icon:steamhappy:

Well, I found the custom icon, copied it to the desktop, created a new generic shortcut, clicked on it and selected "get info". I dragged the custom icon over the steam logo in the top left. The steam icon changed to the space tyrant icon in the top left, and the bottom of the window, under preview, that also changed to the Space Tyrant artwork, but the acutal shortcut on the desktop remained the same old Steam logo. Am I missing a step, is there something else I should do?
