One Steam account, One iMac, Two iMac user accounts, installed games missing.
Hi guys,

First I apologise if this has been answered previously, however I haven't been able to find a discussion that covers each aspect of my query.

We have one iMac and one Steam account. There are two user accounts on the iMac (user A & User B). My issue is regarding the Steam account's library.

If I log onto the iMac as User A and then start the Steam Client and log into my Steam account my library shows which games are downloaded and ready to play. For example, Deponia, Thimbleweed Park and The Inner World.

But if I log onto the same iMac as User B and then start the Steam Client and log into my Steam account (same account as above) my library shows different games that are downloaded and ready to play. e.g. Oxenfree and The Pillars of The Earth, and shows Deponia, Thimbleweed Park and The Inner World as not having been downloaded onto the iMac.

From what I have read my understanding is that Two different Steam Accounts on the same computer should be able to see and share games via Family Sharing, and am I right in thinking that is also true for multiple Steam Clients, though not running simulatneously.

How do I make it so that the downloaded games are accessible to both iMac user accounts?

I checked both iMac user accounts, making sure that both "Mac HD > Users > A > Library > Application Support > Steam" and "Mac HD > Users > B > Library > Application Support > Steam" folders permissions are set to Read Write.

I still cannot get the Library to show all downloaded games. Any ideas?

Thanks Heaps

All games get installed in to your users folder, so each user that uses steam should download the game indepenedly. So if you decide to install game A on user Account A it's only installed for your user. So if you both decide to instlall the game it gets installed info /home/username/application support/steam. The second or thirth urer that installs the game installs it also under there own username.

Nothing can be changed about this, it's by design.

This type of thing isn't unusual with multiple-user-accounts (the primary purpose of which is to keep things separate). You could try redirecting your steam installs to a different directory, so that they are outside the user home folders structure - For example create a new folder on the root of your hard drive (or a separate drive) called "STEAM STUFF" and then point your game installs to that location for both users (you can then move your existing game installs there and recheck your game to be sure nothing needs updated, using the "Verify Integrity of Game Files" function for each of your installed games. You'll almost certainly have to tell the Steam client in both accounts to install the game, but in theory the second account should discover the game files and realize it is already installed. In theory this might, might, work to give you 1 install per game, so you aren't eating up space, but each user would still have his/her own preferences and saves. Then again, a lot of products really don't work well with multiple-users, even Apple's own software (try doing this with 2-users and a shared iTunes library, for example). So if you have plenty of drive space, don't bother, just allow Steam to install the games twice... But it's worth a shot if you are low on space. (You may also have to learn about folder and file permissions, not fun. Look at BatchMod to do this to entire folder-structures, but don't, under any circumstances, play with the permissions of folders if you don't understand what you are doing...)

Hi. Thanks to everyone for the advice. We have a some things to try. One work around I might try is to set up a gaming user account. All games downloaded and used within that account. Thanks again!
