ps4 controller not detected by steam on mac

i am running the latest mac OS and steam updates but the controller will not connect. what i did was went into steam, big picture mode, settings, controller settings. then i plugged my controller in via micro USB cable. but it still said no controllers detected. i made sure ps4 controller support was on. i have also tried this when it was connected to the mac via Bluetooth but nothing happened. i even turned Bluetooth off and steam will not detect it. how can i get steam to detect it?

Hi, thanks for the replies! I'm actually trying to get both/either to work in all games but that appears to be too much of an ask. Some games PS4 works, some Xbox, to varying degrees. I'm trying to a painless couch gaming experience but its just not happening....

Let’s start with the Xbox controllers first. Are you trying use wired or wireless controllers? Have you installed the latest Controller driver (wired) for Xbox from GitHub? You need to use an older version for wireless. Do you have the Microsoft™ dongle/transmitter for Xbox controllers?

If you need this info I can get it for you.

PS4 have you tried using the controller connected with the ‘original’ cable that came with the controller? I’d suggest getting this to work first before going wirelessly.

I just got all my files transferred from my old ext. HD to my new one yesterday. I will now be able to use Steam™ again. Do NOT buy Seagate™ Hard drives.

I have Windows 10 on a whole other Ext. HD but I’m an Apple™ guy. I play games via Apple™.

I checked your logs and saw that Steam did and open the controller when it was connected via Bluetooth but not when it was connected over USB. Do you have a different micro USB cable you can try? Some of them are only capable of charging and not usable as a data cable.

would you be able to help me out also? I have a problem where steam recognises my controller and I can navigate through bpm no problem, though when I try and launch a game, any game infact, the game does not recognise the controller at all, like no input what so ever. I've used the ps4 controller fine without issues for a year or more and then all of a sudden it just stopped working and I can't for the life of me figure out why.

This is happening to me as well can you help me?

Did you ever solve your problem? I know for me I had to go into Settings and make sure Steam Controller was not enabled.

Hi, I havent tested again recently but would guess with native support in Catalina it may be improved? I can test this week for you if you have any specific games in mind.

I took a look at the installed files for Grid and it seems likely that it will work for it as well. Same place essentially as F1: "Browse Local Files", "Show Package Contents" on "GRID Autosport", Contents, Resources, InputDevices, AnalogTriggers. Good luck!

I am having the issue with both American truck sim and European truck sim 2. Played for a few hours yesterday and all was fine. Today it doesn't want to work properly in either. If it helps narrow it down I am using a 2013 MacBook air and a genuine PS4 controller

I am having similar issues using DualShock 4 on Macbook Pro running Catalina. I am attempting to play American truck Simulator, and the issues I encounter are:

Acceleration Axis Joy: Missing
Brake Axis Joy: Missing
This means that I cannot use left stick, even though I can see it works during calibration. Have reset to default, and unassigned/reassigned with no luck.

Also, a constant issue (before the above issue occurred after recent ATS update) is that steam keyboard randomly "pops under" all other open windows, causing complete controller failure. You have to escape out of ATS/Steam to close the keyboard. I have checked if there is a key assigned to auto open keyboard (that I may be hitting accidently during gameplay) but no.

Hello, I have finally got a resolution from them for this.

You need to go into your config file and change a 0 to a 1. if the line does not exist then I can give you the details of the line you need to insert. The instructions they sent were

"Please navigate to ~/Library/Application Support/American Truck Simulator (or euro truck simulator for ETS2)and open the config.cfg with a text editor ( for example Notepad). Once opened, scroll to the bottom and look for the line uset r_macgl_legacy_flush "0" and change 0 to 1 and save the file."

Works perfectly for me now. But now having issues with Mods crashing the game around scania trucks to resolve. Hope this helps
