64 bit support on the Mac
Hello Folks. I have a question and I refer it to steam service providers. I checked in my system info on my Mac that Steam is not a 64 bit app, and I also heard the next generation of macOS which will replace High Sierra will no longer support non-64 bit apps. Can something be done about this?

I wouldn't bet on it. (Running 10.15b2 and Xcode 11b2, and finding some... interesting... behaviour in connection to sandboxing/permissions. Haven't tried to recompile older apps yet.)

At the very least, it would be helpful if there were some tool to find out which games in our library (whether installed or not) are 32-bit vs 64-bit.

An easy way is to go to apple menu, hold option and choose system information. In this window go down to software and then Legacy software. This should list 32 bit apps on your Boot drive. You may need to look harder if storing apps on an external drive.

If the game is not installed it won't list, so again more work needed.

As you say, Valve could provide a tool to users or a list of affected games so people don't move forward with OS upgrade without a legacy install to fall back to.

If you re-download Steam, it's totally 64-bit. https://imgur.com/UbXGXi4

This is simply not the case for everyone. I've just re-downloaded the steam installer and overwritten the old app and it's still 32bit.

you have to delete the steam app first, then re-install.. It will then be 64bit. It was already stated the installer does not update the Application folder App, if it's already there. It only updates the core in the Library folder.

Huh. Are you sure you don't have two copies?

I didn't. It was 32-bit before (I got the warning recently) and it's now 64-bit. I'm in the Steam client beta program, but that shouldn't affect the launcher.

There is a nice little tool to scan through your apps list to find if it is 64-bit or not. It even looks at the modules and components of the app to see if those are 64-bit too.

https://www.stclairsoft.com/Go64/index.html

So for example for me the following games/game apps will have issues:
Steam (base app is not 64-bit)
Starcraft
Battle.net (blizzard error.app component is still 32-bit)
Diablo III (battle.net.bundle is 32-bit)
Elder Scrolls Online (crash reporter and launcher are still 32-bit)
Borderlands: Pre-Sequel
