iMac Windows VM Steam Link
Hello all, I'd like to purchase an iMac 2018, and on it I will install a Windows VM to play my Steam games with a Steam Link on the tv.

Will it work properly? Will I have to do a dual boot instead?

Thank you

I have not tried using my Steam Link with a Windows virtual machine, but I would recommend setting your VM's network to be bridged so it receives an IP address from your router (or whatever piece of equipment is acting as a DHCP server).

I have never tried gaming in a VM (I use Parallels Desktop). You will have a better experience using Bootcamp instead of a VM. Both VMware Fusion and Parallels Desktop only support DirectX 10. No DirectX 11 or 12 or Vulkan. But this all depends on what game(s) you are playing.

I use Link with OSX games and works fine. But to go with a VM I would say no way, the performance dramaticly goes down. Best option is to go for Dual boot OSX + Bootcamp. With bootcamp you run Windows native on your hardware and gives you the best performance for Windows there is no vitualisation involvoed as your mac runs normal intel hardware it can run Windows very nice native. No tweaking involved Apple has everythign sorted and fully supported just google Bootcamp.

Dual boot works easy just hold down option at bootup, and choose your startup pattition OSX/Windows.

Ok thank you all! Would you recommend some configuration options for playing games like skyrim-fallout4 & various rpg?
