Steam Browser/Store not working
Hi all. After the recent update today, the Steam browser and access to the store from the Steam client is not working anymore. I'm hoping that downloads still work.

Im on a Mac. Ive tried a few previous solutions (Install the Beta and turn off the firewall) but no luck.

Any help would be appreciated.

Clear your browser web cache in the settings menu.

Try clearing your cache.

Steam > Settings > Web Browser > Delete Web Browser Cache

You might be experiencing the problem I describe in this post: https://steamcommunity.com/discussions/forum/2/1693795812293731098/

I believe the Steam Helper.app is the process responsible for rendering web content for the main Steam app. Since the latest update, it constantly crashes due to a improper linking issue. Without it running properly, you don't have access to the store.

Trying to troubleshoot this by deleting files or something is not going to work. The only thing that will is an update from Valve that corrects this faulty linking issue.

Thanks @El Deniss. I'm guessing that your meaning that you have seen the update on OS X 10.8 with no issue. Is that right?

Having this same problem on an older system running 10.7.5.

Does anyone know if there is a way to find/load an older version of the steam client?

Steam doesn't have a great record when it comes to fixing problems on the Mac that their updates cause -- so I'm not holding my breath for a fix. I wouldn't actually care about not getting the store to load on this system, but this seems to affect the finding and downloading of program updates as well, and that is a problem.

ADDED: Judging from past issues. I doubt I'll see an answer (other than the typical "this was fixed already" -- when it hasn't been), so alternately, is there a way to download game updates without having to go through the steam client?
