Open Safari and type steam://flushconfig then press enter
Restart your computer.
Launch Steam and re-test the issue.
That appeared to do the same thing as clearing the download cache which I had already done. But I did it anyway with the same result. Still no worky :(
Given that Steam restarts between each one, there is no way i'm going to spend several hours trying EVERY item in that list. Especially when I'm 99% certain it will not help. As I said, I have a PC connected to the EXACT same network that works fine. If the region works on the PC and doesn't on the Mac then he problem lies elsewhere.
Any server near me was slow as dirt or is having issues.
The ones that were faster for me (I'm on the east coast) are, UAE, Vancover, Houston, South Korea and Sweden.
I was looking more for diagnostics logs generated on the device by the steam client.
On a lark I changed the steam settings to opt in to beta which forced an update of the client, then I switched back to non-beta which again forced an update and now suddenly things are working again!
