Can't download or update any games. Content Servers Unreachable. Mac Only.
I don't game much on my MacBook Pro, so I'm not sure how long this has ben a problem. Possibly since the last OS update to 10.14 Mojave. I typically play on my PC but like to load some games onto my MBP when traveling or on vacation.

No matter what game, whether a full install or an update, I immediately get the error that Content Servers are Unreachable.

At first this happened in a hotel so I thought maybe the required ports were blocked. But when I got home and tried again I got the same error, so I know it can't be a network problem as my MBP is connected to the exact same network as my main PC and downloading games works fin on the PC. Also Steam is clearly connected as I can browse around through the store and what not with no problem.

I've tried changing download locations multiple times with no luck. I tried reinstalling Steam (just copying the latest version into Applications) and that didn't work either.

When I Googled the problem it seemed a lot of others have had it but I could find no clear fix. Most of the reports were from Wine users, and their fix - manually adding the servers to a config file -- did no wok for me.

Try: Completely exit the Steam client.
Open Safari and type steam://flushconfig then press enter
Restart your computer.
Launch Steam and re-test the issue.

That appeared to do the same thing as clearing the download cache which I had already done. But I did it anyway with the same result. Still no worky :(
Try ALL the download regions until you find one that works.

Given that Steam restarts between each one, there is no way i'm going to spend several hours trying EVERY item in that list. Especially when I'm 99% certain it will not help. As I said, I have a PC connected to the EXACT same network that works fine. If the region works on the PC and doesn't on the Mac then he problem lies elsewhere.
Users say Manchester works well.

Any server near me was slow as dirt or is having issues.

The ones that were faster for me (I'm on the east coast) are, UAE, Vancover, Houston, South Korea and Sweden.

Does Steam generate detailed logs anywhere that I might be able to look at to determine the issue?

Only ones here... https://help.steampowered.com/en/accountdata

I was looking more for diagnostics logs generated on the device by the steam client.
In the Logs folder in the Steam folder.
Ok found the logs in ~/Library/Application Support/Steam but didn't seem to be any useful information there.

On a lark I changed the steam settings to opt in to beta which forced an update of the client, then I switched back to non-beta which again forced an update and now suddenly things are working again!
