WARNING MAC USERS: DO NOT UPDATE YOUR MAC OS TO CATALINA
Mac OS Catalina 10.15 is going to be the first Mac OS to only support 64-bit. Steam is not going to work for Mac OS 10.15 because the client cannot benefit itself to 32-bit and it has not been optimised to 64-bit, now you have been warned that whenever you have updated the Mac OS to 10.15 Steam will cease to work and then all the Mac users will be extremely upset so please stop the updates after you get to Mojave...

Honestly, if I didn't actually NEED a mac for work, since I work in the creative industries, I'd start reconsidering it. That is, despite the fact that I've been a mac user since 2003. (Half my life).

Maybe in the future, I'll get some sort of gaming PC and keep the mac for work, but for now... I'll wait and see what happens, I suppose. =)

If you're using a Mac for work it'd need to be pretty beefy? Video editing Photo Editing? Do you have to use personal funds to purchase the work Mac?
Yeah, it's bought with my own personal funds. Work provide iMacs in the studio. I own a macbook pro. I'm a graphic designer, so most of what I do is design for print, some photo editing, the odd website layout... and sometimes I might co-develop mobile apps for a client.

I did a Software dev uni course a couple of years ago to help with the side of my job that required it. Stuck some extra RAM in the thing and it ran very smooth. Hilariously, the thing was compiling code much faster than some of my colleagues' Windows laptops with similar specs. Macs are definitely more efficient with their resources.

If you're a video editor, you probably do need something much beefier though. I haven't done any serious video editing in quite some time.
For Code Compilation a Mac is more similar to Linux under the hood than it is to Windows in that regard.
Also a solution which I just prepared last weekend and have applied now. I resized my disk and made it smaller, then cloned my current OSX installation on a second volume. This week I did the upgrade succes fully on my first volume. Now I have a dual boot and can go back whenever needed to 10.14.
I went with only liking/playing games that were 64bit :d2axe:

Your solution is superior though :vaultkey:
I guess we will all need to be patient - well meaning game developers, if they have any business sense, would update their games through Steam. Steam should work with these developers to expedite the updates. The only "loser" in this game, so far, is the Gamer!
You can be patient as much as you want only a few old games will see a 64bit update and even fewer will get a metal rendering pipeline.

What you can hope for is that some developers port Wine for Android to MacOS.

I can't start any applications now after upgrading. It just says: An error occurred while updating (game title) (unknown error)
I don't really understand all that is involved with online gaming and downloading things for it to work, or how to fix it, but recently I updated to the new OS for Mac and now my stream download does not appear on my desktop. Just saw this article relating to it. If I had known about this before I would've not downloaded the new iOS for Mac. Can someone inform me on what to do in order to fix this? I don't want to lose all the games I paid for, and would like to continue playing them.
I just found a workaround for a new application to download that works with it. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=1055-ISJM-8568

This doesn't help though. We know how to update Steam to 64 bit. In fact, I have been using the 64 bit client since it came out. The problem is that many games on Steam are still 32 bit, so if we update to Catalina, we lose the ability to play those games. Could be half the library if you have a lot of older or indie games like me.
anyone having problems with mic? Doesnt even appear in Privacy - microphone section...
I did press the link in the first comment on the thread and it says steam on my thing is yes to supporting 64bit

Steam does still work on Catalina. You just have to reinstall it.
