Apple APP purchased and cannot add extension/DLC

Bought XCOM 2 on Apple App store added manually to my steam account and it does come up on list. Bought the Extension War of the Chosen. Entered the CD Key in steam and got an error saying the original game (XCOM 2) needs to be activated. Its in my game list what do I need to do to activate it? Not aware that Apple issues CD keys.

Adding a game as a non-Steam game does not mean you own the game on Steam. The app store version is not compatible to the Steam DLCs.

Purchase the base game on Steam.

F*** it - just going to buy the whole package (original game and DLCs) from Stream. They got me.
