How to download game to Hard Drive

Hey, does anyone know how I could install a game to an external hard drive (using mac of course). I downloaded Assassin's Creed Odyssey so it doesn't just give me the option of installing so I'm wondering how I can put it on my external hard drive. I heard that you are supposed to go to settings or preferences but I see nothing about where to install a game there. Thanks.

Plug in your external drive of choice and fire up Steam.
In Steam Preferences > Downloads you can specify an alternate library folder. Just make a new folder named SteamLibrary on your external drive and choose it. ...
Select a game to install. ...
Install your game as usual. ...
Open and play your game!

For some reason, there is no steam preferences option for me, only store preferences :/

In the Steam client, click on Steam in the top left corner, then Settings. Make sure Family View is disabled, otherwise Settings is not shown as an option.

Thanks for your help, everyone, I was able to change the default folder. It still will not give me an option to install the game anywhere. Any idea how to fix that?

On a MAC? The game is a Windows only game.

There is a way to play windows games on mac. There are more complex ways but a lot of people have had luck by installing the game on an external hard drive and playing it from there.

Which is why I'm asking because it will not let him install it if he wasn't using one of those methods. But just DL'ing it to an external won't be enough. Uplay games don't work like that.

This is the tutorial I am using. So far it seems to work as the game is trying to install. Because of the size, it'll take a while, of course, so hopefully, it may work.
