Thank you for reaching out to Hardware Support, we apologize for the delay.
Our development team has reported this bug to Apple support and has been awaiting a correction from their end.
As a workaround, you can try bypassing the drivers by using /Applications/Steam.app/Contents/MacOS/steam_osx -skipstreamingdrivers
in the Terminal. You may need to uninstall the existing drivers before using this will help.
You can use your preferred method to remove the drivers, or follow these instructions to uninstall the drivers Steam uses:
- Close Steam and disconnect any extra input devices - controllers, wireless receivers, etc.
- Press space+CMD+Option key to bring up 'Applications'
- Type in 'Terminal'
- Launch 'Terminal'
- Type in: sudo rm -r /Library/Extensions/SteamInput.kext
-- (the address may vary with installation, and might be under /System/Library/Extensions)
- Type in sudo rm -r /Library/Extensions/AmbrosiaAudioSupport.kext
- Restart the computer
- Reopen the Terminal and type in /Applications/Steam.app/Contents/MacOS/steam_osx -skipstreamingdrivers
- Start Steam and test the issue
This process removes .kext driver file from the computer. Typically, Steam will detect that it is missing these drivers when Big Picture mode is launched with a controller connected or a streaming session starts.
I found another article on the Steam Discussion forums referencing a post by "Jonas MN" on the Apple forums that could help remove the Ambrosia driver:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6615897
In my Mac, I am asked to "Install" the Gamepad Driver Update. I click "Install".
A dialog appears that says 'Please click the "Allow" button to load system software from "Valve Corporation" and/or "Ambrosia Software, Inc" in the Security & Privacy system settings.' I press OK.
Then System Preferences open up. But there is no mention of "Valve Corporation" or "Ambrosia Software Inc" anywhere.
However, in the background suddenly the installation somehow completes. Yay. It says "The installation was successful". Here, there is only one button available: "Close". I click Close.
I restart my Mac.
I restart my Android TV.
I return to the Steam Link app on Android TV. I press Start Playing, the whole thing repeats again.
WHAT DO I DO?????? It's an endless cycle.
