This worked for me thank you :D I made a second account on my computer and Steam runs fine on it. I have to download all of my games again but they work once that is done.
To create a second account on a mac go to your system preferances (either on your doc at the bottum of the screen or search it through the magnifying glass at the top right of your screen)
Once there open the tab "Users and Groups" in this menu there should be a lock at the bottum left hand corner that you can click on to make changes (This will require an administartors name and password)
Once unlocked press the plus button + right above the lock to add a user
After you have entered all the correct information for the new user (name password etc) press create user and you should only need to log out through the tiny apple logo in the upper right hand corner and log back in under a new user :D hopefully this works for all of you.
Sometimes it doesn't say "Application not responding" but the outcome is the same. Steam never opens and I have to force quit.
First, I moved my SteamApps folder from Hard Drive>Users>[Your Mac Username]\Library\Application Support\Steam to my desktop and then I moved Hard Drive>Users>[Your Mac Username]\Library\Application Support\Steam to the trash and then moved Steam in Applications to the trash and then reinstalled from the steam.dmg I downloaded from the steam website. After launching steam, while it was updating, I copied my SteamApps folder back to where it was previously and after steam started and I logged back in, everything was back to the way it used to be.
If any of your installed games are missing you may have to check "steam library folders" in preferences>downloads, but everything was fine on mine, in spite of having a steam library on a separate partition.
If it is TF2 then go to settings and lower the quality, I know it will look like sum Wack..
But you are the one who bought a mac.
What? That has nothing to do with this topic.
