PS4 Configuration Support just disables the controller.
With the 12th December update, the PS4 controller is officially supported and should offer many options similar to the Steam Controller. However on Mac, when I enable the PS4 Configuration Support in the settings and then disconnect / reconnect the controller, the controller just doesn't work in the client anymore.

I tested it with bluetooth AND plugged in on both a Macbook Air and a Mac Pro 2013 running 10.12.1.

With bluetooth, it just doesn't detect anything and no input works whatsoever if the setting is enabled.
With USB, it displays a generic gamepad detected but it doesn't actually work at all. No input works whatsoever.

Once you disable the setting and reconnect your controller, it will work like before.

What about you? I'm guessing it must the same for everybody else but can you please confirm it if so?

It would be really nice if they could fix this :/

I'm also having the same problem. It seems that i only had my controller to work once with the new steam update, but my controls weren't fully function. I will try a series of experiments to retest the way i got it to work and ill come back with my data. Good luck to all.

Having the same issues curious if anyone found a fix, the controller works with the interface but when i enable configuration support (to play with portal2) I can no longer control the interface, it now recognises two controllers (even though one is connected) find the ps4 one and a generic one, when i click identify on the ps4 one it does rumble but still can't control anything?

I fixed mine. I had to update my mac software with the latest updated steam. You have to link your ps4 controller through a wire and enter big picture mode. Once when i did that, i was able to operate steam and games with my controller. I've tested it on Left 4 Dead 2.

Ok but did you enable PS4 configuration Support and were you able to configure it like the Steam Controller? If not, then you're just using the controller like normal, with no extra stuff from the new PS4 controller support update.

wire connections working fine with DS4 with config support.

this is what happen to me.
1. Bluetooth connection with ps4 configuration enable doesn't work anything.
2. cable connection with ps4 configuration enable work like two controllers connected at the same time. (castle crasher started two characters that do the same on press any button.)
3. disabling ps4 configuration all come back to the normal state.

please a steam programmers, we need a fix. where can we send a troubleshot request?

Really? You can configure the PS4 controller just like the Steam Controller? I very much doubt it.
Confirmed. Ironic that something supposed to add functionality actually doesn't.

Yes you can use it over a wired connection or using the build in bluethoot. Only thing is configuration wise you can do a lot more with the Steam Controller and it works even on games that don't have controller support. This is not the case with the DS4 the game needs to have Controller support in order to use it.

I have both controllers I like the DS4 controller to use with more action type of game like Binding of Isaac or Rocket Leage, the Steam controller I like more with strategy games like Stelaris, City Skylines etc.

I don't think you really understand what's going on here. Of course the DS4 works over wired and bluetooth on Mac, it has worked for years, this is nothing new.

What you don't understand is what the PS4 Controller Support is with Steam. Games don't need to include anything to make it work, it's purely a driver bundled with Steam. On Windows, the PS4 Controller Support lets you configure the DS4 just like the Steam Controller. You can rebind keys, use the touchpad as a mouse, for scrolling, and a bunch of other configurations ON THE PS4 CONTROLLER.

Unfortunately on Mac, activating the PS4 Controller Support does not work and worst than that, makes the controller not work.

So in short, it's prefectly normal that your DS4 works on Mac, the issue is that the PS4 Controller Support option that was included in the december update does not work on Mac.

I sound like I'm lecturing you but the fact that you say that:

Shows that you didn't understand that the PS4 Controller should have the same EXACT configurations as the Steam Controller. Yet, it's doesn't. Well except on Windows.
Sorry if I sounded condescending, I'm just trying to be as clear as possible.

So this is really a thing. I thought it was me. And I have to say, this is exactly why I had avoided purchasing things on Steam for years and just stick with my console.

I was very interested in playing the new "Night in the Woods" game. I saw it was out for PS4 and Steam and I thought, "well if I get it for Steam my teenage kids could play it on their own computer over family sharing". And if I can get my PS4 controller to work on the Mac, why not? Beats fighting over who is using the PS4.

I get a little more convinced seeing the news reports from December that Steam has added full support for the PS4 controller. I like to tweak and map keys. Perfect, I say.

Only, it's not. Actually far from it as it doesn't even work as those who understand the exact problem describe on this thread.

Of course, it's Februrary which means as with so many problems in the past the issue appears to have been ignored by Steam for over two months.

Sorry, Steam, your clearly missing the "Big Picture". Off to spend my money on the Playstation Store...

Well, if you're just looking for a console-like experience, you can just connect the PS4 controller to the Mac natively in 2 seconds and skip the configuration part, it will work just like with your PS4. The PS4 Controller Configuration update is meant to enhance the PS4 Controller beyond what even the PS4 itself can do. It it doesn't work, you have nothing less than the control experience that is on the PS4 but on your Mac.

Same issues here. Since registering my controller in the settings it actually doesn't work at all anymore. Castle Crashers used to automatically recognize it without any issues.
