Steam not recognizing free space
There is a discrepancy between my actual free space on HD according to my mac and the free space according to Steam, with the latter "reading" as free only about 32% of the actual free storage space. This prevents me from installing games that would take more space. How can I solve this?

Thanks

Working on it... can't find a solution sadly....

BTW does Steam tell you you have exactly 0mb free space?
Thx

So.... I was looking over the forums to find an answer... came back to steam and... it fixed itself???

No idea wtf just happened?

More people have mentioned this issue. I'm not sure why it fixes all of a sudden, I only can think about that Steam client runs a script everynow and then to check the disk. So maybe you just found the fix by keeping the application open for a while.

I guess more testers are needed to confirm this idea.

I've 110G free on a 1TB disk, Steam says I've insufficient space for a 112MB game. "You do not have enough disk space available to run this game. Please free up some disk space and then try again." I get this for every game, no matter the size since I moved to a new computer and have no games in my local library. I'm effectively locked-out of Steam.

I'll help the experiment (and maybe my own problem) by leaving the app running and checking later to see if I can install/run any games. Fingers crossed!

Well, I let it sit overnight, idle. Same result for all games, even Good, which needs just 72MB. Any ideas?

Success. I did the following. I don't know which step was the solution, but here you go. This is basically re-installing steam completely. If you have downloaded and saved games this may delete files needed for those games or your saved state. Use this at your own risk. I was on a new computer with no games downloaded, so nothing to lose.

I opened a terminal and went to ~/Library/Application\ Support/Steam. There was only one file there. This is incorrect. I went up one directory and deleted the folder. You can use "rm -rf ./Steam" or use "open . " (i.e., open period). This will open the Application Support folder in Finder. Then you can drag Steam to the trash.
Then I went to /Applications (not ~/Applications) and removed Steam.app
I went to my downloads folder and opened the downloaded steam.dmg installer. It ran two passes of updates, I had to re-register my computer as a new device. I was then able to switch out of the store into my Library and download games.
