Unable to backspace, use arrow keys, copy/paste or press enter in the client
If I should post this in help and tips, I will, I just felt it was more appropriate to post here because I'm sure I'll be ridiculed rather than get any real advice for using a Mac in the PC master race platform.

I bought a new 2016 13" MacBook Pro, without the touchbar, so I'm fairly new to the OS in general. But I noticed while trying to log into Steam after installing it, I made a typo with my username, and I was completely incapable of deleting without highlighting my text and typing over it. The backspace key just didn't register it was being pressed. So I checked it out in another program, and it was working fine.

I entered my password and hit enter, nothing happened. So I clicked login instead. Entered my steam guard code and pressed enter, again, nothing happened. I tested enter in another program and again it worked fine. I then started to notice I was unable to use the arrow keys to move my type cursor in a chat, I had to click where I wanted the type cursor to go. On top of being incapable of deleting any spelling mistakes and being able to press enter to send my message.

I did a quick google search and I'm not finding that much, I did find something from 2014 but it seems outdated because it was telling me to search some settings that just don't exist in my OS.

Is anyone else currently experiencing this issue? Or have you experienced it and found a fix?

MacOS Sierra Version 10.12.1

Hi Riley, I'm having the same problem and I have an older Mac so I don't think is because your mac version but I don't discard something related with the OSX Sierra. I haven't entered to my account in a while so I don't have any idea since when this issue is occurring. Hope this will be solved in a next update and it would be great if someone else of the community may tell us if he/she is experimenting the same problem.

Regards.

Right I've found out with a bit of testing that this problem comes up far more often if you set Steam to launch as you log in. Maunally launching steam I've found that those keys work okay. Well, so far anyway.

Additionally, quitting steam and relaunching it sometimes fixes the problem. It took me 4 attempts of quitting and launching it before it accepted the keystrokes. So just try that for the time being and see if it works for you.

Same problem. Steam chat works fine via iOS app and in the web browser, but on the mac Steam client itself? The delete and return/enter keys are entirely ignored. You can't copy/paste anymore either unless you right-click and select it from the menu that pops up. I had this problem recently on an older dying machine. Finally got the new one set up, but the same problem exists - and this is with a fresh install of Steam. Running macOS Sierra.

I don't remember if my solution works for your issue specifically but I found that resizing the window actually resolves some issues related to some weird Mac issues like this.

Another thing that works with the Mac client is to use the arrow keys but outside a text field. It also resolves some issues.
