I did all this and it was working fine, but at the very end, it said there was an error called POL_shortcut as I was finishing installing Steam. Do you know what that's all about?
So here's what I do:
Open PlayOnMac
Click Install a program
Search for Steam and click the icon and click install
I go through the prompts and I install the Microsoft fonts (twice) like it prompts me to do
Then Steam Setup appears and I follow the prompts
I let it install in the default folder it gives me and click Install
It says I can now run Steam and so I click Finish
This is when the popup appears on my PlayOnMac window that says:
Error in main
Steam crashed
Select its shortcut and click on "Debug" in the side panel to get more details
No matter what, there is always some sort of error.
So I hit Next and it actually allows me to open Steam and I can install my Civ game
So I wait ten minutes or so for it to install but when I click on it, it'll start playing the opening sequence, but as soon as I try to click on anything, it bugs out, minimizes into the upper lefthand corner of the screen, and goes completely white. What's weird is that I can still hear the music playing and if I manage to click in the right spot, I'll hear the game interacting with me, I just can't see it for the life of me. And now I have that much less memory on my computer and I don't know what to do! It doesn't seem to be working still and I don't know what stage of the process I'm getting messed up on. I just know it has something to do with that error.
Do I need to have some special version of Wine or something? I just don't know.
You want to try Poring Kit from the Porting Team. It's a Google search away, and its even simpler and more user friendly than PlayOnMac
