Download speed is ridiculously slow !

Hi guys,
I bought RPG Maker, and in 12 hours I cant download it, as the speed drops to a couple Bytes (!!!!).

I spent 2 hours trying to fix it, let it overnight, and nothing.
I tried:

- changing server locations (many)
- deleting download cache
- restarting computer

My internet speed is totally fine.

Please help, I dont know what to do anymore !!!!

yeah got the same problems (literally for months if not years) - sometimes the steam download works like a squashed pice of ♥♥♥♥ and sometimes its just fine (similar on my windows pc, but there it is mainly the disc usage)

on a 100mbps connection (throttled to 80mbps for gaming and youtube etc.)
As far as i see it only gets a few tiny moments with a mediocre speed - which looks like that cuz 20 for up/download graphs is bullshiz

Same here! 100mbps connection, but peak: 7,3mbps and average of < 1mbps !?!?!?!?
WTF, it will take 15 DAYS to download my purchase (54gb).

Unacceptable!

I have a similar issue happening at the moment, a 3 gb purchase is forecasted to take years to download and the download keeps dropping to 0 Bytes/s

Same here, the mac download speed for some updates are crawling. Total joke. On pc windows 10 those same downloads whilst stop starting about were generally much faster. At the moment on mac the main store screen won’t even load using the client.

well, it actually seems like every OS is affected by the problem, but only a part of the clients

You might be right, my windows machine was up and down like a yo yo but it was peaking at high speed for long enough periods to get through some updates. But on mac it’s constantly stopping or peaking at a few bytes per second.

Same problem here - the download speed is a few bit/s! I booted up windows in a VM and steam there downloads as it should be peaking my max downstream allowed by the provider. Any fixes?

No ideas, I’m stuck in a download. It’s so frustrating, the update is 50 mb and only has 1.5 left but it’s been stuck in this for two hours at a rate of a few bytes with projection changing from hours to days constantly. I want to quit steam but don’t want to interrupt the download for fear of negative side effects. I can see there is an update to the client pending so maybe that’ll help but like I say I don’t want to disrupt the update to the game in question

I can understand there might be a problem but the outage has gone on too long and the silence from valve/steam is infuriating

I've same issues... I tried on windows and works good.
Are you from europe? Cause i heard that there's a problem on europe regions. Maybe you can try to switch for a region outside europe, i tried and it dosn't work anyway.

I just saw that if you switch from US regions and restart steam, for 5 minutes you can have good speed (5/6 MB/s) but it return very slow after this time.
I'm trying to download 7.5 GB switching region and restarting, it's frustrating, i know, but the it's the only way for now.

This is also the case for me - i just tried an US server and it spiked from couple of bytes to 150Kb/s. - 300KB/s.

But like u say it comes and goes.

Sad - i downloaded more data in 3 minutes than in the last 12 hours.

Edit: Speed seems stable at 350kb/s on the US server so far. Give this a try friends, might be the fix to the problem for now (or try any other non-EU server)

Edit 2: Speed is up over 500KB/S. Yesterday it told me the 1,5gb file will take over a year, now im done in 20 minutes. Thanks Gage, your solution seemed to work !

Yes, I managed to use a us server for the last few megs of my update but it was still rubbish. Going from several hundred bytes to about 100 kilobytes rate and a lot of nothing in between. But still better than (UK) servers and it got it finished. What a disgrace though, seeing posts all over the place yet valve/steam says and apparently doing nothing. Unacceptable.
