STEAM WONT WORK ON MAC; ICON JUMPING BUT NO RESPONSE. PLEASE HELP!
Hi.
So I was playing Dota 2 on my Mac OS X 10.9.5 with Steam fullscreen mode enabled. Notifications kept popping up so I decided to leave Steam fullscreen mode whilst mid game. What happened next is that the game and steam client shut down. At my attempt to reopen the client, it wouldn't work. The steam icon on dock keeps jumping in place but nothing happens. No error no nothing, just wont work.

I tried this command at the terminal /Applications/Steam.app/Contents/MacOS/steam.sh
but still nothing. What it shows after i enter the command is following:

''Startup - updater built Aug 22 2016 17:36:46
found breakpad via in process memory: '/Applications/Steam.app/Contents/Frameworks/Breakpad.framework/Versions/A/Resources'
Installing breakpad crash handler

Without ''. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

whnever that happens to me, i logout of my computer completely, then log back in. if that doesn't work, i restart. sounds more like a computer problem rather than a steam one. :/ this is just form experience though. hopefully that helps!
Ty but i fixed it. I typed in applications (go option) ~/library and deleted steam. Started it again and forced it to update. Did delete my games tho. But at least it was fixed.
imma try this thanks<3

Same for me, what solved the problem was not erasing Applications/Steam and downloading/installing again, but deleting ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/Steam.AppBundle/Steam and downloading Steam again.
