I've never heard about this issue, what if you try to quit the application with shortcuts like CMD+Q or try to kill it with "Activity Monitor"?

It's basicly the same thing, but it might work..

sorry it will force close but thats the only way to do so. when I hit the apple menu and go close it just goes to task bar with an indicator under it. almost acts like finder. when ya hit close, it should!

as a follow up when i try to click on it on the taskbar, nothing happens!

in activity moniter you click on the little stop sign and then click on force quit

I get how to force close. The key is that you shouldn't have to. When I click close the window shuts but it goes the task bar with a running indicator. You can't click it tho. No app should have to be force closed

It might be a 2016 MBP issue as Scott has the same issue. Best might be to open a support ticket maybe at steam support. I'm not sure if any of the support people look around here. Also point in your ticket to this topic so if more people report the same issue it can be found here. Atleast i think that's the most handy thing to do but again I'm not sure if Steam works like this.

@the guys above please add more information like your OS and your MAC model to get some real proof where the issue is from.. So post your OS version and your mac type and model and build year. More inforation can be found under the Apple menu item on the top left and then choose "about your mac"

Just a notice I don't have this issue. So maybe someone that has this issue should open up a support ticket and put as much as information in there include a link to this topic in the forum. My exerience is the more information you add the quicker it's get resolved.

I just logged in to post that I'm having the same problem, but it appears maybe to be fixed?

I have a 15 inch Macbook Pro October 2016 (Touch Bar). 16 GB RAM, 2.7 GHz i7, Radeon 455. I was definitely having the problem where I could Force Quit steam but it would not quit 'properly'.
However, this morning I upgraded from macOS 10.12.2 to 10.12.3 and it appears to be working now. I'll keep an eye on it and post again if the problem comes back.
For those that are having the problem perhaps try updating to 10.12.3 and see how you go?

Unrelated to Steam but I was also having problems where apps (Firefox, VLC, others) would crash after resuming from sleep. I'll be interested to see if that goes away, too!

The same to me. Maybe there is the problem in 2016 MPB only. My MPB is 15 inch, 16RAM,Touch Bar. I mast command+option+esc quit steam when i want turn off book.
