Pay for your own Internet connection.
Their Mac, their rules. FYI steam giving viruses is almost impossible. Notice how I said almost. It can happen, but only having the same chance as browsing the web. They will probably not listen to you, especially since its only for playing games.
If you really want to convice them, make a report containing this:
-Amount of users
-How long steam has been in service
-Valve as a company
-anything in their EULA or TOS that can help (aka legally saying steam software will not give a virus)
-**important** anything that doesn't involve games, preferably to do with education
Some examples: blender, Unreal Dev Kit, Source, and other software can be used for educational purposes. There is also some actual software on steam (not games).
