CS2 server not shown as password protected in Game Servers Browser although sv_password is set
Hi all!

I am running a private CS2 server with sv_password set via autoexec.cfg to make it private. Unfortunately the server is not shown as password protected in Steam's Game Servers Browser. I think that's the reason why no password prompt appears when I try to connect via the browser. Instead CS2 just launches giving me the hint "Bad password rejected by server.".

I know that it is possible to connect to the server via console (connect IP:PORT; password ...) or having set the password prior to connecting.

But is this behavior currently a bug or is this due to wrong server setup?

I am using Docker under Linux and have these launch options...

./game/bin/linuxsteamrt64/cs2 -dedicated +ip <IP> -port <PORT> tv_port <TVPORT> -maxplayers # +net_public_adr <IP> +game_alias competitive +map de_dust2 +sv_setsteamaccount <STEAM_GSLT> +exec autoexec -usercon

Your help is highly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Greetings,
SHEG

I assume this is one of the sideeffets due to not having a "real" dedicated server for cs2.
I'm still waiting/hoping for a full dedicated server release. The lack of a proper autoupdate feature is just one of many more things which are still missing.

As for your question. I have the same behaviour on my server.
There is even a funny bug with this. If you use the server browser in Steam and not the CS2 ingame one (In Steam go to View -> Game Servers) and connect via that it also doesn't prompt you for a password but it connects you without any issues...at least in my setup.
Ah, okay! Thx for your reply. So this is a common issue right now.

Connection via the server browser works without password prompt when you have connected to the server before and you did use the password cvar in console. CS2 saves the password in the config. When you delete the password or replace it by a wrong input and then try to connect via server browser you'll receive the "Bad password rejected by server."-message prompt.
Still a real annoyance, I guess Sepp is spot on!

We need the real dedicated server for CS2, NOW!

I instruct clan members to use this in console:

password secretserverpasswordhere; connect server.whatevertheweather.uk:27015

Just popup the Console and crank the above mended to whatever servername/port/password needed.

Or if they only play CS2 on our private CS2 server, then they can enter almost the same in the launch options for CS2 properties from Steam client SW.

+connect server.whatevertheweather.uk:27015 +password secretserverpasswordhere

That way they launch straight onto our server.

Afraid CSxx always gonna be a beta experience.

Thx for your reply. I've put those commands into a cfg and just execute it whenever I want to connect on my private server.
You can make a shortcut / link to connect to the server with the password, then share the link or create a shortcut with that being the target

steam://connect/ipaddress:port/password

Didn't know that! Thx.
I think it has more to do with limited support for "community" servers. At least there's finally a community server browser feature now. I don't even remember when they added that, but I know it wasn't there at launch.
