I feel like every gamer should act like an adult. Or, at least, mature.
I know this is a weird comment, but I've met/seen some pretty mature 13-14 year olds on Xbox or Steam and such, but I've also seen some pretty damn immature 20-something year olds here as well. Honestly, I feel like some of our youth are becoming more mature because they interact with adults much more--over the internet, or gaming, for example.

I read a book set in 2007 about whether or not gaming is harmful or beneficial, (in a parent's perspective... btw I'm 18, not a parent, I just read it for a book report) and according to research, a lot of kids are becoming a lot more sociable, friendly, responsible, and mature because they interact and befriend older peers through gaming; whether that avenue be through mutually running a guild together, navigating through campaigns, etc. cooperation with different types of people is key.

Personally, I've been good around adults since I was young, because when I was little, we had a lot of my parent's friends come over. I became used to them, and, therefore, a bit more friendly and respectful with older peers. I still am. Older generations like me more than my own generation. Bleh.

Anywho, how do you feel about this? Obviously, I don't think that everyone needs to be stoic and business-like, no. Of course everyone can hang loose, have fun, joke around etc. but it would be nice if we could have a change from the raging, the "I slept with your mother" over CoD, etc etc.

who wants to just sit there and have a boring conversation when you could let loose for a change especially on a video game

is it wrong to be childish once in a while :D

I agree 100%

There is a time and place for maturity.
The internet usually isn't that place.
why?
I was actually asking why is the internet not the place for maturity... I do agree with having fun, however how far does one's immaturity go until it becomes hurtful to others? And does it make it right to continue to have such immature fun at the cost of making another's internet experience horrible? In other words, where is the line drawn, where it really isn't about fun, but just acting in a way, just because you can?
it is what it is that's all i can say we really can't do anything about it unless we like have some sort of filter that seperate gamers. like in halo reach( yeah i know) you have the option of setting your match to either people who talk, people who are competative, or just want to be stupid.

"We" are not you and I. I try to act exactly how I wish to be treated in return. I guess then I am now asking, if "you" have a line that "you" will not cross, or is it "anything goes" as long as you can do just such?

Using another's words to justify your actions, honestly? I truly feel sorrow for you! And as you stated prior, "Because I'm crazy as hell, and if I go crazy at work, I'll get fired." And this justifies your bringing others into your misery?
I feel like this is mostly present in first-person shooters and violence games, which honestly isn't my genre, but I have a hunch.
Games that are targeted toward adults or teens are often looked at as "cool," because kids look up to them and see them playing these games. Because of this, you end up with a 17+ game and 10 year olds are running around screaming profanities. Have you noticed how retro games are usually more kid-friendly and targetted to a younger audience? Over time, gaming industries probably realized that by making games targetted to an older audience, they will get more sales.
Of course many parents use the xbox to babysit their children, so they don't care whether or not they're talking to strangers.
yeah if they crossed the line i would argue but then again i would just leave the server. but i full agree with the treated others how you want to be treated unfortunatly my acts of kindness in the real world makes people hate me and for some odd reason when its the other way around they have this oh i want to be you friend now which totally pisses me off sigh then again.(sounds like a personal problem" so i dont expect any tears

My heart... Oh, to see all these old threads necro'd. It feels... tender.
Those "pretty mature 13-14 year olds" are 23-24 years old now.

It's not the "game" or "gaming" that is the problem... it's the person and their being raised poorly.

Also... get over it... some people are going to be immature, that's life, nothing is going to change

Edit, also this:

Idk, it's a fair 50 50 split amongst those who actually have appropriate responsibilities for their age, and those who...for some reason, don't.

I don't have responsibilities other adults have, like kids, but I would seriously consider telling them to balance work and play, and balance IRL play and online play, so they at least have some people they can truly count on no matter what happens to the internet.
