You hear Rolling Stones (well duh, they are classics) more often. But the stuff that aren't as "good" from longer still get played (good songs, but not as good as some of BSB songs).
Possibly one of their most memorable song : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCo9v5sCaRQ.

2112 was my first Rush album shortly after it first came out.
During that period of development throughout any generation you will find that any "Boyband", "Male/Female Pop icon" or "Label" isn't selling their music. They are selling their image/sex to an incredibly succeptable consumer. Considering that during that era in a persons life regardless of their stature in society, they all have one thing in common...(Law #1) Uncontrollable hormones. Like a domino effect each piece falls into place exactly as the music publishers stratigized they would like a virus the "music/product" spreads quickly and fades into nonexistance due to another rule that never changes (Law #2) A Pop artist has a gateway of time before they are themselves "dated" and alienated from their own genre.
Please keep in mind that I never used the term "musician/songwriter" when speaking of the Pop artist. Although there are exeptions to the following rule they are usually reserved for a smaller portion of artists in the genre (MJ, Madonna etc.. who were accomplished musicians). With that being said.....
(Rule #3) A record publisher must profit as much as possible when the Pop artist is "Hot"...Why? Because it's incredibly expensive for them to maintain the illusion that these "Artists" are exactly that. It is extremely expensive to hire songwriting teams (Yes... Teams!) usually over 20 songwriters strong, talented travelling musicians etc. all the while attempting to maintain this illusion as the "Artist" grows older. Why? Becuase as the artist grows older so do their fan base whom when speaking in terms of pop music have by that time gained control of their hormones and aren't as succeptable to the sexual pressures and social stigmas...They become mature and realize that the music has no true substance.
When you asked where are the backstreet boys, I only have one answer....One the radio, in a different form/guise. Many of the same songwriters who constructed the backstreet boys songs are now working on artists currently signed to the label today.
So the Backstreet Boys you say are still around well..aren't due to this fact.
So where are the Backstreet Boys? Figuratively speaking....they never really existed.
Another good one by the 'Stones is 'Gimmie Shelter' and I honestly think that is the best 'Stones song in my opinion. ... I can't help but think of Vietnam whenever I listen to that and 'Paint it Black' though. Same thing with listening to Jimi Hendrix and CCR there.
As for boy bands? Get em' out of here... pop of today is a disgrace to the pop of tomorrow.
Other then that - complete blank.
