Playing single player games while on Skype with friends?

My friends are playing LoL together while I'm in the chat playing an SP game like Metro or Splinter Cell, I wanna stay in the chat but at the same time I can't hear what my game is saying sometimes. Would my experience be less if I play while in a Skype chat with friends rather than alone?

Let me guess your friends get loud at times? control you chat volume. I don't chat with my friends like you do, but I do like listening to music. I usually turn off the game music while I play mine or listen to my youtube music playlist. I make sure the effects, npc voices & ambience is a tiny bit louder than the music I play plus if the game does subtitles I turn them on as well.
Also I listen to streamers on twitch alot while I play games too. Sometimes I watch tv shows or movies while I play a game.

Its all about volume control. I suggest trying this while chatting with friends.

For example, I just finished Mass Effect 3, and most of the game I played with Skype off. But for a game like Dragon Age 2 which I think is less important to a certain degree, I play with my friends on. I just don't wanna lose the emotional feelings in games.
