Vietnam Games
Im am dismayed by all the bad games that keep coming from the gaming complex; especially the last three or four years. Everyone wants to make war games rather old or futuristic and that's VERY cool with me. What is NOT cool with me is that most war games and FPS just are not doing much innovative outside of graphics-it's like the fun dried up in the late 1990's (I've been a PC gamer since Commadore64). Juding by most reviews I've been reading over at sites like PC Gamer, I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Onto the main talking point: Vietnam games.

What happened to the fun Nam games??? The last one with any flavor of cool was Vietcong...and that was around 2002 If I remember correctly. Anyone know of any Nam games announced? I figured some dev would want to try to score some fun in the Jungle with all this talk of 'Next Gen' hardware...but we shall see I guess.

A nam game rallying on the GHOUL2 hit system using a new engine would probably be a smash hit.

See you in the (next good) Jungle settings.

Theres a sequel to vietcong called vietcong 2. Not as good but decent
Magic? Vietnam? No sir.........
Well, the real reason that they don't make "fun Nam games" is because even now it's still a sensitive issue to people. One only needs to watch the gif of the Vietcong getting executed to realize why this is. You'll notice how whenever they did make Vietnam games, they either ripped off that Charlie Sheen movie (hot shots part deux) and made them sentimental, or they made them as vanilla as possible to avoid offending anyone with stuff like kamikaze children, Saigon escorts (wow, can't believe that word's censored. Is steam for babbys?) with guns, or 19-year olds getting impaled by punji sticks.

And then there's stuff like 1968 Tunnel Rats or that Zombie game by the Rogue Warrior hacks that stray from both camps and end up as abominations of gaming.

The point is, the only real way they could do a Vietnam game now is if it was a bland multiplayer game with no politics (Bad Company 2: Vietnam, which no one even bought) or if it was a soul-crushing Spec Ops: The Line-styled story. We've come too far as a society to make pro-military propaganda as ill-concieved as draft-dodging John Wayne's "The Green Berets". Hell, I remember YEARS ago there were rumors of Hideo Kojima producing a War On Terror FPS and everyone flipped their lid...despite the fact that far worse things have been produced.

You laugh at magic in Vietnam, yet you complain about the lack of originality in modern war games? Personally, I think that's a great idea, though I have no idea how the game plays. Another game in that vein is this shovelware thing:

One last thing: I'm surprised you've never played Call of Duty Black Ops from 2010. That game was noted for its Vietnam-era campaign, although the war only plays a small part in its conspiracy theory storyline and it's chock-full of anachronistic weapons.

Rising Storm vietnam is pretty vietnamy
The original CoD: Black Ops has a chapter of Vietnam set in 1968.

Also, there is a game called: "7554" made by Vietnamese and you play as Vietnamese (Of course).
I agree a good hyper-real hardcore jungle warfare game would be lots of fun

One of my most favourite games of all time. It was slow paced (no COD piece), a good interesting story and most of all great vietnam music from the 60's (like in platoon etc)
Green Hell uses a great Engine for a Vietnam scenerio and fps is damn good; You can even destroy most of the jungle-which any current or next-gen should be able to do (think BFBC:V). It would be great to add elements like diseases that the medic would have to address in the squad.
