Whats a game with an awesome story

so i was going threw my games latly and relized the most recent best story game i have played latley is Spec Ops:the line. i have played a ♥♥♥♥ ton of games in that time frame but none had a real emotinal story. Dishonerd was fun and the story was pretty ok but it had no charecter devlopment besides your own well because you made him in your image in a way. i tried the witcher series but was bored with story and found unappealing after act 1. I have played Masss effect and dragon age. also this for any game system i have pc,ps3,xbox. I have played a majority of the popluar titles on Xbox not so much ps3. i have tried heavy rain and found it boring but intresting game just not for me. any ideas would be cool thanks.

If you've played all those suggestions then your best bet is probably to look into point and click games or visual novels

Time to hit books, then. Even trashy paperback novels usually have better stories than the vast majority of video games. :)

As for books, think about Game of Thrones, World War Z, and any classic literature.

Or some light historical fiction, like Scarrow's Rome series. Not deep, but entertaining and pretty epic (scale-wise). There's also the Grail series by Bernard Cornwell, which I think appeals to video gamers who may not read a lot usually. It's well-paced and not boring.

The Deus Ex series - if you can stand to play with older graphics, hit Deus Ex: Human Revolution & Deus Ex (Invisible War is more take it or leave it). If you don't like older graphics, just stick with DX:HR. Also, I second the Fallout games.

If you're looking for games to play specifically due to story, I would recommend getting the novels that accompany many of these games. I have the companion novels to Bioshock, Deus Ex, and Hitman, and each one has really made me enjoy the in-game story a lot more.

Arkham Asylum (the first one) had a decent story. The Penumbra games and Amnesia were pretty good as well.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this yet (or maybe I missed it), but the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games have such a deep and immersing story that you'll be playing for a good while trying to learn more about the Zone. You'll get owned a lot, too.

I will definitely agree with "Amnesia: The Dark Descent". "Penumbra" is good too but it's a bit dated at this point, and I would say "Amnesia" is the better game anyways. Great horror survival game with a strong emphasis on the story.

Another good option if you like old school open-world platformers like the "Metroid" series or "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night" then "Aquaria" is a really good choice that is both fun, well made, and has a decent story.

"Bastion" is another good game with a good story. Maybe a bit too short, but still a good game with a good story and a narrator that talks as you play that definitely makes the experience stand out.

i quite liked the Legacy of Kain series but its rather dated and ive had a hellish time trying to make blood omen run on my new pc

I'd be curious to see what you think of The Walking Dead. You may find the gameplay boring the story can be gut-wrenching.

I also nominate The Last of Us if you pick up a PS3 at some point.
